Hello! My name is Iris Valdez and I am the current 3rd-5th grade combination teacher with First Lutheran School. I attended California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies in 2008, a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 2010, and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Multimedia in 2012. From 2010-2013 I worked as a substitute teacher for the San Gabriel Unified School District, a K-8 tutor for Sylvan Learning, and a private tutor for grades 2-5.
I am excited to welcome our new third, fourth, and fifth grade students. This year we will learn about California Missions, Native Americans, the fifty states, and create a timeline of our lives. In Science, we will study ecosystems, body systems, volcanoes, the water cycle, the solar system, and do a project on water conservation. Additionally, the fourth and fifth grade students will participate in a Science Fair. In Math, we will cover a wide range of topics, including money, time, multiplication, division, and fractions. In Religion, the students will study sequential and historical Bible stories spanning from Exodus through the formation of the early church and beginning ministry of the apostle Paul. In Technology, the students will practice typing and use PowerPoint to create a presentation on an animal, mission, or state, according to the appropriate grade level.
Our field trips for this year include the LA Zoo and Natural History Museum.
I am looking forward to a fun, thrilling, and enlightening year with our students.
